Prayer requests and praises
Dear Prayer Partners,
We have not done a good job of communicating with you all lately. There has
been so much going on...both good and bad. Life here is never dull. It's
that great Fall season right now where we have no heat in our homes and we
await that great day when the government decides to turn it on. In Moscow
the Mayor has decided he will save money and not turn the heat on until
October 14. At this point no one on the Field has any heat yet. It's
already that long-john season! We would like to share with you some prayer
requests and praises:
Requests:
1) Please pray for the staff and church folks in Kyiv, Ukraine. We have had
difficulties with the construction of the ministry center and today was
another setback. Some wiring in the kitchen caught on fire and it took the
fire department to put the fire out. The building is not severely damaged
but has smoke and water damage and a hole from the kitchen on the first floor
through to the second floor. This is very discouraging for the folks in Kyiv
and especially our missionaries Cliff and Heike Wright and Bob and Colleen
Skinner. Please pray that they will be encouraged.
2) Speaking of encouragement....Cliff and Heike Wright in Kyiv are also
trying to get moved into their own apartment. They had lived in the
Skinner's apartment while they were on furlough and were hoping to be moved
into their apartment when the Skinner's returned. Unfortunately
reconstruction on the apartment has taken a lot longer than expected and they
have been living for a number of weeks out of boxes. Please pray that their
apartment will be finished within the next week.
3) Michael Park, missionary to Kazakstan is having severe back pain. He,
the Work and Witness team from Michigan and his local crew worked so hard in
August to complete the new church building for its dedication that he hurt
his back. Since the dedication he has been in severe pain. He was unable to
walk for about 2 weeks. He is now doing better and is able to be about for
several hours a day. Please pray for his complete recovery.
4) Tanya Araktcheeva, Pastor of Moscow First Church will be getting married
next Thursday, September 28. She is marrying Davide Cantarella whom she met
at ENBC during her studies. Davide has joined the team to work here on the
Field. Please pray for them as they begin their new married life together.
5) We rejoice with Jon and Kathy Mowry at the arrival of their new daughter,
Julia. Please pray for Kathy as she will be returning to the Field on
October 9 with all 3 children!
6) Kimberly Wagner, Christian singer will be on the Field in the first part
of October. She will be doing special concerts with Compassionate
Ministries. Please pray for this outreach. We will be traveling to remote
areas and working with needy people and orphanages.
Praises:
1) Our Pastor's retreat was outstanding. Thirty-six people from throughout
the Field came to the Youth Center just outside Moscow for three and a half
days. We had a marvelous time in the presence of the Lord. It was a real
highlight to have our students who are now attending Nazarene Theological
Seminary present papers/seminars on holiness. What a blessing for them to be
able to share this information in their own language.
2) Our new hymnal has been printed and we enjoyed it so much at the Pastor's
retreat. Every day we spent nearly an hour together singing and praising the
Lord!
3) We received a message over e-mail yesterday that Russia has passed an
amendment to the driver's license law which was causing such frustration over
here. We praise the Lord that they will once again accept a foreign driver's
license. This should make life easier on all of us.
4) Jerry Decker, work and witness team member from Michigan returned home
and is doing very well. He testifies that he felt the Lord healed him
between Moscow and Frankfurt. We are grateful for God's touch on his body.
Thank you so much for taking the time to pray.
