Astana, Kazakhstan:
August 17, 2002
1. Ulan (Pastor here for the classes from Kyrgystan) - Praise - Found a
much needed job. Needs a house for him and his family
2. Services in Astana each Sunday
3. Classes being held - ministerial extension classes taught by various
professors
4. Educational plans for university extension in Astana - Malachi 1:11
- "from the rising of the sun to the setting of the sun...my name will be
great among the nations".
Today we visited the museum that houses many gifts given to the President of
Astana. There we saw many pictures of people whose names are famous among
the nations. Some gifts referred to the gods they worship. Sadly our God's
name was not mentioned. But our purpose is to lift up the name of our God
here that His "name will be great among the nations" - this nation of
Kazakhstan.
Sunday, August 18, 2002
1. Educational program - for Corliss McGee (EuNC), Carla Sunberg,
Michael Park and representatives from KNU as they coordinate a ministerial
educational program here.
2. Chan-Song Park as she studies away at Black Forest Academy in
Germany
3. Michael and Do-Yea as they miss Chan-Song away at school
4. Pastor Zhana - pastoring Astana First and smaller Astana
congregation here
5. Praise for progress of work in Astana over the last six years
6. For Michael Park, director of all our work here in Central Asia
7. For Do Yea Park as she assists Michael and takes care of all the
office work
Monday, August 19, 2002
Visited Akkol - 60 miles north of Astana
Then went on to Stepnorsk - 60 miles north of Akkol
There are 2 churches in Akkol - Akkol First meets in their own building-the
first to be built in Kazakhstan. Another church meets in "A House of
Culture". John Balat is pastor of both churches.
Requests - Akkol
1. Compassionate Ministry Project-Small pig farm (24 pigs) to support
church. Heat, etc.
2. Pastor John Balat - from Muslim family. He had to leave home as a
sophomore in
University when he became a Christian at Astana church.

(Kazakhstan produces wheat - 2nd largest wheat crop exported in the world.
Stalin sent all Koreans and Germans here to grow wheat after WWI. This area
has very bad dirt roads.)
3. John Balat's helper, Vova got saved at the Akkol church about 3 years
ago. Vova says that the greatest need of the church is for more people to
be saved. They have children's service on Saturday and a morning service on
Sunday.
4. Vova's personal needs - finish technical school and go on to be a pastor
John Balat has a "phone of trust" for people to give their requests without
names
5. Need more people and instruments in praise team
6. Praise for good progress with pigs so far
(Church began February 1998 in a ski place. In March 1999 building was
built.)
Stepnagorsk - The church began in 1999. Talked to Luba who was supervising
remodeling. There are about 20 people in the church and 6,000 people in the
city where they mine gold & uranium.
Requests: Remodeling of church building, growth of this small congregation,
the pastor who is leading them.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 20, 2002 - Back in Astana
Today we went with Michael to Vera Church, pastored by Sergei and Elizabeth.
The church has the foundation done for a new church. Need funds to finish
the building. Saturday - youth service. Sunday - Sunday School and church.
Has about 20 people.
Requests:
1. Completion of building as church and dormitory for extension
students, kid's club, computer and English classes for area people.
2. For a youth group to be built up (Very poor area). Started this
group with a prayer cell
3. Document work for new building. Neighbors not happy. Muslim Kazakh
neighbor
4. For the church people to be friends and Christians to community
Wednesday - August 21, 2002 - Train to Almaty, then 3 hours by car to
Bishkek
Bishkek, Kyrgyhstan
Thursday - August 22, 2002 Went with Charlie Hardison to see feeding
program
Requests:
1. Narembeck - needs an apartment, is currently guarding the church property
2. The feeding program: Pay $35 per week to feel 45 people once a week.

This program began in March 2000. Every holiday, they give out gift food
packages
Holidays: Independence Day, Elderly People's Day- they give to people over
100 years old. Last year they had grandmothers, ages: 116, 106, 107, 101 &
100. They gave these grandmothers 500 Som, which is equal to $11. Gifts
given at Christmas time to children: shoes, coats. Invalid Day - staple
package. They give 500 Som to the women's sewing program: pillows,
blankets. Children's Day (June 1) - give money to the orphanages
3.Pray that God will use this program to bring people to Jesus.
THURSDAY EVENING - Thoughts from Charley and Phyllis - (Pray for birth
certificates and passports for newly adopted Kyrgyh twins so they can come
home for furlough in June.) People here are very open to spiritual things
and prayer. Charlie shared about the Medical Missionaries Worker's meeting
for the purpose of prayer and worship, 2 years ago and then again
April,2002. There were 50 people there, from all of Central Asia except
Turkmenistan. Each brought something to represent evil strongholds against
their ministry and laid it on the map of their country. Then they prayed
against these strongholds and for each other. They do this every other
year. Charlie and other medical missionaries meet every other Saturday to
fast and pray for medical issues. Worship in the occult is very prevalent.
Thursday evening - dinner with a church family
(Barktabas, Boldukan, Aisuluu (daughter), Ruslan (son) and friend Jamal)
1. Health for family and children
2. Family sewing business to go well
3. Children's (3) marriages (some not saved)
4. Ainura to enter University to study
5. For sister that travels a lot with her job in Tajikistan.
6. Son's health
7. Jamal and Ulan as he studies in Monterey, California - good church home
there

8. Kyial's family - father unsaved (Zhenya)
Friday August 23, 2002 - Visit to the Clinic
Met Tim Chew - in the 9th grade at Black Forest Academy. He will be in
school with Chan-Song. His father, Dr. Tom Chew is a doctor with Charley at
the clinic in Bishkek. Dr. Hardison and 3 others teach family medicine to
60 specialty doctors who are being trained in this. They will return to
their own countries to teach Family Medicine.
Friday night - Youth Group Meeting - Approximately 8-10 youth. They have
been meeting for about 8 months. They study the Bible and also do homework.
They are studying "Practical Rules for Spiritual Growth" by Ralph Neighbor.

Requests:
1. That all will become Christians and will set aside time to study &
grow.
2. More youth to come - educated and uneducated (are very near
university)
3. For God to give each one another friend to bring to the group
4. That group can go to the mountains for a retreat and take others
with them.
5. Sunday services each week
6. University students as school begins - Music, Medical, Physical
Education, teachers in this area
7. Ways to get message out about the services and youth group
8. Great future for church and new leaders for youth.
Saturday, August 24, 2002 Visit to Cinda's apartment
Prayer for safety of Cinda's apartment Bermet-has a loan from before she
was saved, needs to pay this off and be free of this debt. This debt
brought her to the Lord.
Also for her mother - getting old and with arthritis, age 73.
Visit to Ainagul's village home
Testimony: family was poor, father drank, and son was involved in crimes.
1st time in church she asked God for help. First she came and then her
daughter came to church. Her son went into the army. Then she felt her
heart at peace. She then became friends with Charlie. Then husband came to
church. Now their home is full of peace. She prays at work and says that God
teaches them how to live. Her husband is on his way to salvation. Daughter
sleeps with the Bible under her pillow and also reads it. Sometimes in the
winter when they don't have money, they walk to church, which is a 2-hour
walk. She is an ambulance worker and now evangelizes her patients.
Daughter saw changes in parents and believed.
Ulan and Kyial's home - Dinner
Requests:
1. Good work for Ulan who works now only for the Church Fund (Was
teaching computers, but not enough money for family)
2. For their neighbors - to get to know them better
3. Second oldest sister, Nazira, and mother and Ulan's relatives - not
believers
4. Both sets of parents who are not believers
5. Kyial's father is a very strong Muslim, she needs a godly father
figure

Moscow, Russia
Our group toured the Kremlin and Red Square with Irina, our Russian language
teacher
Irina's prayer requests:
1. Today more people think about their spiritual lives, seeking after
spiritual needs
2. Pray for government and president in their spiritual lives
3. That government official will go to church and be good examples.
4. That Orthodox church will let other churches work
5. Unity of Christian churches
6. That the nation and people of Russia will find right way to God.
7. Her son, Nikita, wisdom to guide him, that he will be interested in
spiritual things and in God.
We are Collectors of needs. (KOLETA - in Russian)
