CIS Prayer: Holiday Greetings

Happy New Year and Merry Christmas!

In our part of the world it’s celebrated in that order.  Tomorrow evening we’ll celebrate the New Year and on January 7 we will have the official Christmas holiday.  After all of these years it’s still hard for us to get used to.

Our family is doing well.  Chuck and Carla celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this last summer.  They had the privilege of having a quiet week together at Carla’s brother Dennis’ cabin in the Idaho Mountains.  This was the same week that Christy and Cara had the privilege of attending the Nazarene Youth Conference in Houston, TX.  They had a marvelous time getting to know other missionary kids from around the world.

While on our home assignment Christy got her driver’s permit and attended driver’s education classes.  During that same period of time Cara attended NNU’s soccer and basketball camps.  While they had a fun summer, as always, they are thrilled to come back home to Russia.

The girls are in 9th and 11th grades at Hinkson Christian Academy in Moscow.  They are both honor roll students and play on the high school soccer and basketball teams.  Christy still plays the piano and Cara plays the guitar.  They both play for chapel services at their school and sing in the worship team at Moscow First Church.

Our very first Christmas in Russia we bought two white parakeets for the girls.  We figured these would be the type of pet that we could handle.  A couple of years ago one of them died, however, Tulip is still hanging in there.  We celebrated our Christmas and the fact that this was her 12th Christmas with us.  On Sunday evening we had a Christmas White Elephant party at our new apartment in Moscow.  As we stood in our new apartment and looked at our nearly 40 Russian friends that were there celebrating with us, we were overwhelmed with emotion over all that God has done these last years.

Thank God for His goodness.  May God bless you all in this coming year!
