CIS Prayer: Tuesday night
It's Tuesday evening here in Moscow and we've had our own personal little scare tonight. Our youngest daughter, Cara was out having pizza with her friends after soccer practice. They were finished with their pizza and trying to pay the bill when the security guards came up to them and told them to leave the restaurant. They said they weren't finished paying. They were told it didn't matter and just to get out. As a matter of fact, they told everyone to get out, immediately. They rushed them all out and locked the doors and then they overheard the guards on their radios and the whole little mini-mall was being secured. Cara called me and asked me what to do. I told her to get out of there and get home! We don't know what happened but are assuming there was some type of a bomb threat. The whole city is on edge! All the shopping centers are putting in metal detectors at every entrance.
Many have asked me if we've gotten any new news on the Pastor's family from Beslan. The sad news is that from the two Totiev families, the bodies of six children have now been identified. We cannot imagine the horror of all of this! We must lift them, along with all the other families to the Father in prayer.
Many of you have also written and asked if there is anything that you can do to help. Yes, there is! Through NAZKOM (Nazarene Compassionate MInistries - Russia) we are able to direct funds to the sources where they can help the most. We are not able to physically travel to Beslan at this time. All of the borders to Northern Ossetia have been closed to those without registration from that area. However, there are those with the right documents that are able to help in those areas. If you want to make donations to NCM (Nazarene Compassionate Ministries) we will make sure that the donations are used for 2 purposes -- 1) To help with the emotional help/recovery of children and families in Beslan. 2) To help with medical supplies for the wounded. This is an urgent need. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in Kansas City has established a fund where donations can be made. The account is ACM1719 "Russia Disaster Relief." The NCM web page should be setting up a site so that donations can be made directly on the Internet via credit card. However, I have just checked the site and it is not functioning yet. Until then, checks can be sent to Kansas City, made out to the General Treasurer and the account listed.
Thanks so much for all your love, support and prayers. We are all very, very grateful!
